PTC Ceramic Heating Elements

Self-Regulating, Safe & Efficient Heat Solutions for Air, Automotive, Appliance & Industrial Applications

Product Introduction

PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) ceramic heating elements are a new generation of self-regulating heat sources built around a barium titanate PTC ceramic chip. Unlike conventional resistance wire heaters, a PTC element's resistance rises sharply as its temperature approaches a designed set-point, which automatically limits current draw and stabilises surface temperature without any external thermostat or controller. Every product in EPT Ltd's PTC range is built around the same core PTC ceramic chip technology, differentiated by how the chip is finned, cased, and insulated for the target application — covering both low-voltage DC (12V/24V) and mains AC (110-240V) configurations to suit a wide variety of OEM and industrial requirements.

Product Range — Four Core Types

All four product types below share the same PTC ceramic chip core. They differ only in fin construction, housing, and insulation, allowing customers to select the format that best fits their assembly process.

Type 1 — Basic PTC Ceramic Heating Element (Bare, Foil-Wrapped)

The PTC ceramic chip is wrapped directly in a protective aluminium/copper foil jacket and fitted with lead wires, with no fins and no outer housing. This is the most compact and cost-effective format, supplied in a range of lengths and typically embedded by the customer into their own appliance housing.

•     Typical applications: OEM heating modules for hair dryers, hand dryers, humidifiers, egg boiler, hair straightener, hair curler  and other small appliances where the element is built into an existing enclosure.

Type 2 — Corrugated Aluminium Fin, Bakelite-Housed, Insulated surface, with or without thermostat for over heat protection

The PTC ceramic chip is combined with corrugated aluminium fins to expand the heat-exchange surface, then insulated and mounted into a bakelite end housing complete with an integrated thermal fuse/cut-off and a multi-wire harness for direct wiring into an appliance.

•     Typical applications: household and portable fan/space heaters, and any PTC air heater module requiring built-in overheat protection and safe end-user handling, ventilation system , dehumidifier,

Type 3 — Corrugated Aluminium Fin, No Case, Uninsulated or insulated surface

The same corrugated aluminium fin construction as Type 2, but supplied without a housing and without surface insulation. Terminals are provided as fork/spade connectors or lead wires, and the elements are available in multiple lengths and stack configurations.

•     Typical applications: OEM integration where the manufacturer supplies its own housing and control circuitry, industrial and HVAC duct heating, and drying equipment.

Type 4 — Aluminium Diffused-Shape Case ,OEM customised case, OEM shell

The PTC ceramic chip is housed inside an extruded aluminium case with a diffused/ribbed profile rather than open fins, giving a compact, semi-sealed heat-conducting body.

•     Typical applications: compact personal-care appliances and small heaters where a smooth, anti-freeze device

                                              Demister etc..

Product Features :

•     Self-regulating temperature: the ceramic PTC core naturally limits its own surface temperature, reducing the risk of overheating even under blocked airflow or continuous operation.

•     Fast heat-up: reaches working temperature within seconds of power-on, thanks to the direct ceramic-to-air/fin heat transfer path.

•     High thermal efficiency: aluminium honeycomb or corrugated fin structures maximise surface area for rapid, even heat exchange with passing air.

•     Long service life: no filament to burn out; the solid-state ceramic core resists fatigue from repeated on/off cycling.

•     Low-voltage & mains options: available in 12V/24V DC versions for automotive, portable and battery-powered devices, as well as 110-240V AC versions for household and industrial equipment.

•     Built-in safety protection: the bakelite-housed fin type (Type 2) integrates a thermal fuse or thermal cut-off for additional overheat protection at the appliance level.

•     Flexible form factors: supplied as bare foil-wrapped chips, corrugated aluminium fin elements (housed or bare), or aluminium diffused-shape cased elements, across a range of lengths and stack sizes.

•     Low noise, no combustion: purely electric, solid-state heating with no open flame, fuel, or moving heating parts.

Key Advantages over Traditional Resistance Wire Heaters

•     Inherent overheat protection — resistance increases automatically as temperature rises, capping power draw without relying solely on external controls.

•     More stable outlet air temperature across varying airflow and voltage conditions.

•     Higher energy efficiency at steady-state operation, since the element self-limits rather than continuing to draw full current once at temperature.

•     Simplified control circuitry — many applications can operate the PTC element directly off a switch or relay, without a separate thermostat.

•     Better durability under vibration and repeated cycling, common in automotive and portable-appliance use.

•     Cleaner, quieter operation with no fuel combustion and minimal maintenance.
